May 2026 Reading Wrap-Up | Adrian Tchaikovsky, Automatic Noodle & More | Mini Reviews

May 2026 Reading Wrap-Up!

This month, my reading did slow down a tad. I only read three books, with two of them being closer to novellas than full-length novels. However, everything I read this month was a minimum 4-star read. That’s a good month in my books (pun intended).

So, without further ado, here’s my—

Green City Wars by Adrian Tchaikovsky – ★★★★

I’ll admit, this wasn’t the easiest book to read. It was, however, a very thought-provoking experience that is going to stay with me for a very long time. Tchaikovsky has this brilliant imagination that goes all out with its science and world-building, resulting in a very rich and dense world that feels plausible enough to exist. Green City Wars is no exception.

Adrian Tchaikovsky has crafted a wonderfully reflective experience with this one. A neo noir crime mystery thriller with a rich and realized world building that’s as thought-provoking as it is immersive.

I was looking for a cozy read, and this ended up being the perfect read. Robots displaying human emotions? A cozy restaurant setting that actually cares about its food? Interesting backstories that take inspiration from real life events, adding a layer of reality that makes this story all the more compelling? Automatic Noodle was a warm and comfy read that left me smiling an feeling good. Every character was unique, and the way the story unfolded kept me engaged from start to end.

The Employees by Olga Ravn & Martin Aitken (translator) – ★★★★1/2

I don’t know how to describe this book. It’s weird. It’s confusing. But most importantly, it’s a damn mesmerising read. At first, you’ll be left wondering what even is happening. Then, as you start piecing the puzzle together, you’ll see what the author really intended. The recurring motifs, the slowly changing attitudes of the employees being interviewed, and the way it all mirrors our real-life workplaces and work cultures, everything about this book screams ‘brilliant!’.

Seriously, if you sit down with your thoughts and reflect upon what you read, you’ll keep finding more and more to appreciate. The limited perspective of the employee interviews actually works wonders for that very reason.

May 2026 Reading Wrap-Up | Current Read:

This month, I continued my journey with Dungeon Crawler Carl. I would like to be all caught up with this series before the year ends. So far, I’m finding this entire floor’s gimmick with the Hunters super interesting. I was worried it’d end up being like Carl’s Doomsday Scenario, but I was proven wrong within the first couple of chapters. Excited to see where this is headed.

I didn’t read more than a few chapters of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 4: Diamond is Unbreakable. Like I said last month, I am a little tired of this series, and this is a much needed break. I do intend on finishing Part 4 soon, but whether or not I’ll continue onto Part 5 depends on my mood.
