July 2024 was a much slower month than I expected. I almost decided skip this month’s updates, because writing-wise the progress was slow. On the personal front, I saw a lot of new changes, the biggest one being this little devil joining my family:

However, I made good progress on my WIP (Adeva Book 1), so I’m happy overall. This one’s going to be short, because I was occupied with a lot of non-writing related stuff for the majority of July.

Untitled Adeva Trilogy Book 1 – 35k words done as of July 2024!

This is currently my main WIP. Given how important this story is to my heart, it’s kinda taken precedence over Island of the Dying Goddess. I intended to juggle between the two in July. However, with all the other things happening in life, I had enough time to work on just one of my WIPs, and it was this one.

I guess I can reveal some non-spoiler-y aspects of this book. This book is going to be split into 5 parts (books), separated by interludes and bookended by a prologue and epilogue. Yes, the structure is inspired by the Stormlight Archive, and I’m using it to expand the scope of the book’s timeline. As of July 2024, I’m done writing the prologue, epilogue and interludes. I normally write linear, but given what I want to achieve with this book, it made sense to finish these bits first.

Island of the Dying Goddess – Going to start my first read through!

The first draft was completed in June 2024. Normally, I give myself 1-2 weeks of break after completing a draft so that I can revisit it with a fresh mindset. However, I ended up giving myself a whole month this time around, which actually works in my favour. I know this one is going to need another round or two of edits before it’s ready for beta readers.

Currently, I’m getting ready to start my first read through of the rough draft. If all goes right, I should be able to begin editing the second draft mid-to-late August.

I also expect to wrap up and reveal the cover for this in August. More on this in my next updates post.
