July 2024 Reading Wrap Up! Well, this one’s going to be a little bit shorter than usual because I couldn’t find enough time to read as much as I normally do. I’ve explained briefly why that is in my monthly updates post, so check that out if you want to know. That being said, even though I read fewer books, they were all great reads.

Here’s my July 2024 reading wrap up!

The Bartender Between Worlds by Herman Steuernagel – ★★★★

I signed up to receive a free eARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

This was my first foray into Morgan Shank’s writing. I did not expect this book to be a character-driven dark fantasy, but that was the highlight of my reading experience. Every single character was unique, with Itula’s arc shining beyond everyone else’s. The world came alive with Shank’s intricate descriptions—which is a given since he’s a landscape photographer—presenting to the readers a world that is fully realised, complex, and dark.

A Princess of Oldir by Bryan Wilson – ★★★★

I signed up to receive a free eARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

This was my first foray into the world of The Power of the Stars, and what an interesting chapter of political intrigue it turned out to be. I really loved the Star Wars meets Dune aesthetic, not to mention the brilliant character work and fluid action sequences.

A Dirge for Cascius by Calum Lott – ★★★★★

This was one of my most anticipated releases of 2024, and I am happy to report that it was AWESOME. My expectations were high to begin with and yet the author surpassed them all.

I won’t say much, except that this book is a legit piece of art. The writing is great, the imagination more so. Calum Lott’s efforts and creativity really shine through Cascius, and I cannot recommend this book enough!

Current Read as of 31 July 2024:

Okay, so I wasn’t able to finish Rhythm of War like I planned, but am about 30% into the story. It has been a relatively dull experience if I’m being honest. It’s not bad, just… I don’t know what it is exactly. Maybe it’s Cosmere fatigue (I read OB & DS in the last two months). I’m planning on finishing this in August, right after I’m done with my pending ARCs.
