Futurama Season 13 was released on Hulu on September 15, 2025. Originally released in 1999, Futurama is an American Animated Sci-Fi Comedy Show by Matt Groening (creator of The Simpsons). After 2 cancellations, Futurama was renewed for a third time by Hulu, with new seasons streaming from 2023.
Starring Billy West, Katey Sagal, John DiMaggio, Tress MacNeille Maurice LaMarche, Phil LaMarr, Lauren Tom, and David Herman, the show follows Philip J. Fry as he wakes up in the future after being cryogenically frozen.
This is the third ‘new season’ that I’m watching this year. Is it better or worse than Seasons 11 & 12? Read & find out!

Futurama Season 13 Synopsis:
Philip J. Fry, a pizza delivery boy, is accidentally frozen in 1999 and thawed out on New Year’s Eve 2999.
Bender is rampaging out of control! A volcano is about to explode! Fry confronts a rival for Leela’s love! And Dr. Zoidberg is rising up to heaven?! The excitement might be too much! You’ve been warned… it’s an all new season of ‘Futurama’
Futurama Season 13 Review:
Futurama used to be a fantastic sci-fi comedy series with a massive cult following. Fans even held it in higher regard than the extremely popular ‘The Simpsons’. And I believe one of the reasons for that was because it was much more contained, and ended in its prime. I was skeptical about the (second) renewal, and despite the gold in Seasons 11 & 12, the show is most certainly past its prime.
Which then begs the question: Is Season 13 better or worse?
Honestly, like Seasons 11 & 12, Season 13 is also a mixed bag. Some episodes were great, some good, and then we have the mediocre and bad ones. That being said, Season 13, like its predecessors, was just… ok. If you want more Futurama episodes, Season 13 doesn’t disappoint. But, if you’re a purist who believes the show should not have been renewed by Hulu, Season 13 won’t do anything to convert you.
Anyway, here are my episode-wise mini reviews.
Side Note: Depending on streaming services/DVDs, Season 13 might also be listed as Season 10. I’ve explained why there are two different listings in my last Futurama review. I’m watching the show on JioHotstar, and it’s listed as Season 13, so that’s how I’ve listed it on my blog.
Episode 1: Destroy Tall Monsters

I hated this episode. Honestly, the conflict of Bender feeling insecure about his height just didn’t work for me. The whole story played out like a bad fanfic. And that’s more a jibe at the show, because I’ve read some really good fanfics. Even the B-plot with Leela and Fry arguing over whether they’re similar or different didn’t resonate with me as much. That plot had more interesting moments, but overall landed flat.
Admittedly, I really loved the kaiju/godzilla finale with a dash of Pacific Rim put in. I guess that was the only bit I really liked. Other than that, a pretty bad opening for the new season.
Episode 2: The World is Hot Enough

First off, this one was significantly better than the first episode. The whole global warming angle did feel a little on-the-nose, but I liked the way it progressed. From Fry’s treating the baby polar bears as his kids, to the world’s very realistic reaction to presented data… everything was quite amusing.
Even the ending, where—SPOILERS!—Farnsworth realises that he’s reading the data from 2025, not 3025, was a hilarious-yet-painful jibe at our current times. Not the best episode of the season, but definitely better than episode 1.
Episode 3: Fifty Shades of Green

Another miss for me, Fifty Shades of Green felt very out of place. The whole Fry-Leela relationship not working out felt a little too old and unnecessary. We’ve seen better versions of this conflict, and I almost considered stopping with the season. But, I let it play on in the background.
Not as bad as Episode 1, but quite a downgrade from Episode 2.
Episode 4: The Numberland Gap

Finally, a good episode! Actually no, a GREAT episode. This one felt most like classic Futurama. The exploration of numbers and their existence was as philosophical as it was hilarious. It’s stories like these that made me fall in love with Futurama.
From start to finish, I loved everything about this episode. While the B-plot with Fry’s paintings wasn’t nearly as interesting, it’s sillyness balanced out the smarts in Farnsworth’s arc. I doubt any other episode will top this. I write these mini reviews as and when I finish an episode, so I haven’t watched any of the next episodes yet. Maybe I’ll be proven wrong. Who knows?
Episode 5: Scared Screenless

Another good episode! I’m glad I didn’t quit on the show.
The whole ‘screen addiction’ angle was pertinent, including the whole ’10G as drugs’ and ‘nature camp as rehab’ gags. To see an entire culture of hippies continue to reject modernity, all to end up as mindless barbarians was a pretty harsh-yet-thought-provoking turn in the plot. I didn’t particularly enjoy the B-plot, but it was amusing enough to keep me hooked. Plus, Kiff and Axl’s father-son relationship was pretty endearing to see.
Episode 6: Wicked Human

I honestly liked this one more than The Numberland Gap. The twist with Farnsworth and Planet Express working as a ‘cult’ promoting science was mind-blowing. Their attempts to figure out what the ‘Rapture’ is served the grounds for a profound exploration of humanity’s need to find answers.
However, the resolution and explanation was so idiotic that I genuinely felt robbed of a rewarding ending. I mean, seriously? No one on Earth could figure out that millions of people are being ‘fished’ by aliens? You couldn’t come up with a better, more believable ending?
Episode 7: Murderoni

While a lot of the topical humour was great, the overall narrative didn’t resonate with me as much. I liked the whole plot of the Mom-&-Pop pizza place competing with a leech of a politician in an election campaign. I even loved seeing the fantastical bureaucratic dystopia that Hermes navigates. Despite all that, the episode left me feeling just… meh. Lots of good humour, lots of funny gags, but still just an okay episode. Maybe you might like it better.
Episode 8: Crab Splatter

The most emotionally charged episode of the season, I really a) hated how badly Zoidberg is treated, and b) loved how he gets his due emotional rewards. From the conflict, to the way the plot plays with Leela and Zoidberg’s characters, I really enjoyed this episode.
As good as Futurama is with its intelligent use of science, as well as its quirky humour, it also knows how to really give you the feels, and this episode is a great example of just that.
Episode 9: The Trouble with Truffles

Another brilliant episode, it’s clear that the second half of Futurma Season 13 is much stronger than its first. This one comments on the exploitative industries that function only because of a demand from the elites. I genuinely believe that when it comes to such topical content, Futurama shines bright.
From the whole ecosystem of galactic truffle farming, to the ‘Glutties’, I really loved this episode. While it might not be my favourite of the season, it certainly is responsible for my trust in this series to remain alight.
Episode 10: The White Hole

Okay, this was the best episode of the lot. From Mickey 17, to Alien, this tells a compelling, thought-provoking story that’s a nod of the very stories that it is parodying. I won’t say more, because this is one episode I genuinely think you should watch without any prior notion.

Futurama Season 13 Watching?
Yes. Unless you’re a Futurama purist who believes it should’ve ended with Season 10. Then no, the show is past its prime. However, it still has some pretty great episodes in its list, if you’re up for it.
In Conclusion:
Futurama Season 13 is a mixed bag of episodes. Some good, some bad, some meh. The show may be past its prime, but is sure isn’t dead yet, and I genuinely am looking forward to what’s coming next in this series. After all, Futurama Season 14 is already greenlit, no?
