The ARCs (Advanced Reader Copies) for Help! My Dog Is The Chosen One are going to be a major milestone in my publishing journey. Just the thought of my book going into the hands of the public is giving me the jitters.
Last week, I had tweeted this —

I clicked that picture moments after I exported the e-ARC file from Kindle Create. When I held my Kindle in my hand, looking at the eARC, I was literally shaking.
The day of my book’s release is drawing near. Knowing that this is my first time self-publishing, I knew I was going to mess up somehow. And surprisingly, I didn’t!
But there have been a ton of delays in the process, and with each delay comes course correction. And that’s kinda where I am right now.
Why ARCs are important for authors
ARCs or Advanced Reader Copies are drafts of novels that are yet to be proofread. Publishers and authors send out these copies months before a book’s release to help get early reviews, create a buzz, etc.
I’ll be honest, had no idea ARCs existed until last year when I signed up to receive an ARC of Rob J Hayes’ Titan Hoppers. I kinda binge-read that book, because it was awesome! Since then, I’ve read quite a few amazing stories. Hell, I was lucky enough to read an eARC of Blood Over Bright Haven, one of the best books I’ve read this year!

Since then, I keep an eye out for any interesting books whose authors might be looking for ARC readers. I didn’t always get selected, but I really enjoyed the ones I did receive.
From ARC reader, to sending out my own ARCs, I feel like I’ve crossed a mountain. But the journey’s only just starting.
Help! My Dog Is The Chosen One! ARCs
I’m writing this post at 00:30. Seriously, I can’t sleep tonight because I just posted a call for my eARCs a few hours ago. I’ve gotten a few responses, but it’s still a long way before I can reach my goal.
Calling all #FantasyReaders & #BookReviewers! I’m sending out FREE #eARC of my book #HelpMyDogIsTheChosenOne !
If interested, DM me your email id to get an e-copy. #advancedreaderscopy #indiebooks #bookrecs #arc #advancedreadercopy #urbanfantasy #fantasybooks pic.twitter.com/QlLtVBlbfq

As a first time author, I’m basically a nobody. People have no reason to want to read my book, other than maybe the intrigue that my cover and blurb can generate. I also don’t have the budget to send out physical copies, which is why I can only send e-copies, which can limit my reach with reviewers.
I know it’s a long shot, but I hope that I can get a few reviews up on Goodreads, Amazon & other sites (still working on getting the book up on these); these reviews might help me get better sales.
Of course, there’s more to it than just ARCs and reviews, but for now the focus is sending out my book to the public and hope that it’s good enough.
About my debut novel:
Title: Help! My Dog Is The Chosen One!
Word Count: ~70,000

Description:
Kunal is forced to adventure…
Because his dog is the Chosen One!
Kunal is just your average guy living on rent, working from home, and suffering from anxiety. His world is turned upside down when his girlfriend asks him to foster a rescued a street dog. Despite his qualms, Kunal agrees because, ‘What’s the worst that can happen?’
That’s when the extra-dimensional dark lord attacks.
The dog is the only one who can stop the dark lord, but he can’t do it without Kunal’s help. Can Kunal overcome his many anxieties or will our world suffer for eternity?
EDIT: eARC requests are now closed.
However, if you wish to read my book, it is now available worldwide. You can pick your preferred store by clicking on the button below:
Want to sign up for the eARC?
Help! My Dog Is The Chosen One! is going to be out in a month. I wonder how many ARC requests I’ll get before then. If you would like to receive an eARC Help! My Dog Is The Chosen One! , please consider signing up below —
I don’t know what the right number is for sending out ARCs, but as a first-time author, I’m managing my expectations. If you do sign up for the eARC, my only request is that you leave a review after reading it. An honest review, even if it means giving it a 1-star.
This is my first time self-publishing, and there have been more than many hiccoughs along the road. But I’m confident I can pull this off.
