March 2026 Film & TV Recap | Rental Family | Scary Movies | Mini Reviews

March 2026 Film & TV Recap! Well, March was a comparatively better month for me. I started the month by watching one of the best films of recent times. Plus, I watched more films this month than the previous two. However, most of this month was pretty average on the film and TV front.

Note: I also rewatched The Nice Guys (2017) and Scary Movie 4, but I don’t review rewatches, so I didn’t add it to my list. However, I thought I should mention it, because it was the perfectly comforting watch for me after moving apartments.

So, without further ado—

March 2026 Film & TV Recap (FILMS):

Resurrection (2025) dir. Bi Gan

Resurrection 2025 sci fi epic Chinese film Bi Gan 狂野时代

Considered one of the best films of the last year, I finally got a chance to watch it this month. Now, I’ve only seen one of Bi Gan’s short films, but I’ve read a lot about his technical prowess as a filmmaker.

With Resurrection, I can verify that this genuinely is one of the best films made in recent times. A love letter to cinema, this film’s technical and aesthetic finesse is rivalled only by the scope and scale of its themes, plot, and artistic value. This is not a film for everyone, but cinephiles who love the likes of Terrence Mallick, David Lynch, or even Tarkovsky, you guys are in for a treat of a lifetime!

Have you watched it?

Rental Family (2025) dir. Hikari

Rental Family 2025 Film Poster featuring Brendan Fraser, Akira Emoto, Takehiro Hira, Shannon Mahina Gorman & Mari Yamamoto a film by Hikari

Technically, this was quite a beautiful film with a genuinely heartwarming story. Philosophically, this was an oversimplified fairy tale that—if the film hadn’t mentioned the director’s name—I’d have believed was made by Rajkumar Hirani.

As an adult with critical thinking abilities, I couldn’t help but wonder about the deeper mental and emotional impact of the characters’ actions on their ‘clients’. That and the lack of a deeper exploration of what this ‘Rental Family’ means made this quite a mediocre watch. At least for me.

Zootopia 2 (2025) dir. Jared Bush & Byron Howard

Zootopia 2 2025 Official Film Poster Disney featuring Ginnifer Goodwin as the voice of Judy Hopps the rabbit, Jason Bateman as Nick Wilde, the fox, and Ke Huy Quan as Gary De'Snake, a pit viper.

I really enjoyed the first Zootopia. After a long hard day, I needed something comforting, and I thought this would be a nice way to end my day. Honestly, it was.

While the movie doesn’t exactly break the mould, the inclusion of reptiles did feel sort of fresh. However, the plot also felt more or less the same as the previous film. It had many cool as well as tender moments, but overall exactly what I had expected from Zootopia 2.

Vishwaroopam (2013) dir. Kamal Haasan

Vishwaroopam 2013 film poster featuring Kamal Haasan

I had moderate-to-high expectation from this one, considering that Kamal Haasan was in the director’s chair. I genuinely think his “Hey Ram (2000) is one of the best and most important Indian films, especially relevant to today’s political climate.

Sadly, this one was more disappointing than I had expected. It’s certainly a more nuanced film compared to the propoganda slop, Dhurandhar. However, technically speaking it felt pretty dated. The romantic plot with Wizam’s wife just didn’t make sense, and ended up bloating an otherwise okay film.

I don’t really feel like reviewing this one, mostly because I was bored for most of the second half of the film. Overall, good by mass Indian entertainer standards, but very disappointing when compared to Haasan’s best.

My Rating: ★★★

Jugnuma: The Fable (2024) dir. Raam Reddy

Jugnuma 2024 Raam Reddy Film Poster featuring Manoj Bajpayee, Priyanka Bose, Hiral Sahu & Awan Pookot

I really loved Raam Reddy’s directorial debut, Thithi. I had moderate-to-high expectations from this one, especially given that Manoj Bajpayee was playing the lead.

However, the film didn’t work for me on a few levels. Objectively, it’s a beautifully shot film with a hauntingly dreamy atmosphere that feels like a half-remembered memory from a long passed time. Yet, the ambiguity of the film’s plot and some of the aesthetic choices didn’t work for me personally. I’d still recommend you watch it, but go in expecting an esoteric festival film.

Scary Movie 5 (2013) dir. Malcolm D. Lee

Scary Movie 5 2013 Film Poster

I had avoided watching this one because it released at a time when I was mostly watching World Cinema. With the trailer for Scary Movie 6 releasing recently, I thought I’d give this one a shot. After all, I did watch Scary Movies 1-3 recently, so I thought why not finish the set?

Bad Idea. Scary Movie 4 was just bad and forgettable, which explains why I don’t remember more than a handful of jokes. 5 was even worse. There were maybe 4-5 moments where I laughed out loud, but that’s about it. Most of it was just cringe and bad, and some was outright problematic. I honestly don’t know if I am going to bother writing a review, or even watching Scary Movie 6.

March 2026 Film & TV Recap (SHOWS):

One Piece Season 2

One Piece Live Action Season 2 Netflix featuring Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp & Taz Skylar as Sanji

Not only is One Piece one of my all time favourite stories, it’s objectively one of the most important stories being told in current times. With the first season of Netflix’s live action show doing such a brilliant job of adapting Eiichiro Oda’s epic, I was super hyped for season 2. Especially considering it takes us to Drum Island with Chopper’s backstory, and slowly making its way towards Alabasta.

From its accurate character designs to its loyalty to One Piece’s story and aesthetics, the live action continues to impress.

I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson

I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson official poster cringe absurd sketch comedy show Netflix

I watched this mostly because of how much I enjoyed The Chair Company. As expected form a sketch comedy show with the same folks in charge… this was a pretty wild ride. Tim Robinson’s absurd brand of comedy really works for me.

Of course, some sketches were boring, others so iconic. It’s a mixed bag, but definitely worth a watch. Have you seen it yet?

Finally,

March 2026 was another average month on the TV and Film side. While I watched a lot more than the previous months, most of it was largely okay, with the exception of Resurrection. I did start watching Invincible Season 4, Scrubs (2026), and am halfway through The Sopranos Season 4. However, all of those will probably get reviews in the next month.
